The Weekly Things to Do is a social media series designed to prompt Ottawans to get involved in the community. We are not attempting to replace great resources like To Do Canada, The Ottawan, etc., simply to shine a light on them and encourage our neighbours to get out there by spotlighting a few upcoming activities. There is a link in all of the agent’s bios pointing to To Do Canada.'
Function: This is short-form content for our social media presence, supporting the public awareness of our brand as community-builders. We are not replacing existing resources but helping connect our community to these resources. Content is meant to be short, catchy, and encourage our audience to engage further with our profile (i.e. by navigating to Shor.By), while instilling confidence in our brand.
To script the video, pick a few things to do from To Do Canada and turn it into a 3-5 sentence script for an agent.
An ideal example script is:
Ottawa is home to Canada’s biggest bike race, and it’s rolling in this weekend. You can catch a public screening of the Goonies in Major’s Hill, or try some delicious eats at PoutineFest, Beerfest, and Ribfest. Finally, check out our Open Houses in Beacon Hill and Kanata, we’ve got some great family townhouses for sale. I’m Nick — much more at the link in my bio.
Winterlude is about to kick off, and you don’t want to miss the historic opening ceremony. The Foo Fighters are in town, and Ottawa’s biggest flea market is this Saturday at Lansdowne. When Ottawa’s temperatures get extreme - so do the sports! Barbegazi, a high-adrenaline snowmobile festival is here this weekend only. I’m Chelsea — head to the link in my bio for how to make the most of your weekend.
*Tip: Don’t bury the lede — instead of “did you know?” - “Ottawa is known for..”. Lead with “Ottawa” as the first word wherever possible.
Film vertically, optimize for publishing to Instagram Reels.
Captioned in Montserrat in the lower-thirds of the video
End fade to logo
Light up-beat music playing in the background at a low volume
~3-4 creatives added for emphasis (i.e. event logos, symbols)
CTA: I’m agent. Click the link in my bio for … things to do in Ottawa, what’s on this weekend, etc.
Best practices when editing:
If it helps, film sentence by sentence and simply clip them together, cutting off any excess time at the front & end. Add a few stickers, add a logo, some music - and it’s done.
Maximum length: 30-45 seconds
Editing time: ~30-45 minutes
Publish to Meta with caption.
