Motion Matching is the flagship technology of Motion Symphony and is the cutting edge in terms of realtime animation in the game industry. The technique is utilized in many AAA games today and it provides un-paralleled high fidelity animation which is both realistic and controllable while simplifying complex animation transitions.
In short, motion matching continuously searches through a database of poses every few frames to find one that best matches the current pose and desired trajectory of the character (from player input). Once the best pose is found, or chosen, it will be set as the current pose and the animation will be played from that point until a new pose is chosen. Through each animation/ pose change, the result is continuously blended resulting in smooth animation synthesis with minimal blends.
