Tips to Prevent Your Baby From Overheating While Sleeping {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

Babies are cute no matter what, but nothing beats the cuteness of a sleeping baby. While your little angel dreams, you get to spend a few moments watching them lay peacefully as you dream of who they will become and what they will achieve in life.

As sweet as these moments can be, they become fewer and farther between when your baby is uncomfortable while sleeping. Overheating can be a real problem for babies, so it pays to keep things balanced. Below are some tips to help new parents ensure that their babies get a good night’s sleep:

Keep Things Light

Although your baby looks delicate, they are probably tougher than you give them credit for. Instead of bundling up your little bundle of joy, consider using lightweight, breathable fabrics. Many parents will wrap the baby in a receiving blanket to help the little one drift off to sleep in mom or dad’s arms. A receiving blanket should be made from a fabric like cotton or linen to keep the right temperature balance, and always keep an eye on a sleeping baby to make sure they stay covered.

Check Your Baby’s Temperature Often

You can also monitor your baby’s temperature by gently holding your hand against their back or stomach. Your baby should feel warm, but not hot. This is where having your baby sleep in a blanket or sleep sack comes in handy since these options allow for quick and easy access without disturbing your little one. Keep in mind that hands and feet tend to be cooler than your baby’s core, so these areas aren’t the best to check for an accurate temperature.

Don’t Use Artificial Heat

You should never use artificial heating products like electric blankets or heating bottles. If you sense that your baby is cold, consider adding another light blanket layer. You might also consider adding another layer of sleep clothing, but just keep an eye on the temperature. A blanket can easily be removed if things get too warm, but clothing can be more challenging to get off and could wake your baby up.
