How to Manage Visitors at Your Company {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

Running a company often means having a system in place to track employees as they come and go throughout the day. This is usually handled with some type of access management system, but it can also be done using a traditional punch clock. Although most employers understand the value of keeping up with employees’ comings and goings, some overlook the importance of having a system in place to deal with visitors.

Why Visitor Access Tracking is Important

Visitors may enter your business for a variety of reasons. In some cases, a visitor will be dropping something off for an employee. In others, a visitor may be on site for a meeting with a specific department. Journalists, vendors and others can all be considered visitors, and while most do not pose a security concern, you need a process for tracking visitors to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Aside from the potential for a security issue, visitors can also get injured on your property. Your business needs some type of system in place to track visitors to ensure that they are escorted safely around your property since visitors may not know about dangerous areas.

How Visitors Can Be Tracked

One of the easiest ways to keep up with visitors at your business is to use visitor management software. This software usually integrates a variety of technologies that allow your company to notate the arrival of a visitor, credential the visitor while they are on the premises, track the whereabouts of visitors and make note of when a visitor exists. Visitor management software may also be integrated around your company’s property using temporary badges that can be swiped at check-in stations placed at entrances of your company’s buildings.

It would also be a good idea to have your company train all employees regarding visitor policies. This can help employees avoid unnecessary security issues if they have someone coming to visit for lunch or a special event. When your employees understand your visitor policy, they can let visitors know about your protocols ahead of time to make the entry process more efficient.
