How Fast Do Babies Grow Out of Their Clothes? {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

There’s no question that babies grow fast, but if you’re a new parent who is looking for baby clothes, you may be wondering just how fast. There are several factors involved in the rate of a baby’s growth, and each child is unique. While It’s impossible to say how fast your baby will grow out of their clothes, below are some things to keep in mind when trying to plan:

Consider Birth Weight

As a rule of thumb, babies who are born weighing less than eight pounds will likely grow out of their newborn clothes in about five or six weeks. Babies who are born weighing eight pounds or more will likely be out of newborn clothing much faster.

As your baby grows into a toddler, you’ll begin to experience small growth spurts. During these times, a change in clothing size may be more rapid for a short period, likely a few months, and then things will slow down a bit. You might consider pre-purchasing clothing for a size or two too big so that you have clothing available in the future as the need arises.

Talk to Your Pediatrician

To get a better idea about your baby’s growth and growth trajectory, talk to your pediatrician. They will be able to give you a better idea about your baby’s growth expectations based on the vitals that are gathered at each appointment. Virtually all pediatricians’ offices keep records on a chart so that you and your pediatrician can monitor the rate of growth over time.

Shop Smart

When shopping for baby clothes, whether they be custom organic baby sets or simple onesies, think about the last time you bought new clothes. If it was recently, those custom organic baby sets are probably safe for a little while.

If it was a few months ago, you may want to hold off for just a little longer to see where your child ends up. Once again, you may be headed for a growth spurt if your child hasn’t had one in a few months.
