Mastermind is a British quiz show which has aired on the BBC since 1972. It is currently presented by John Humphrys. 

Each episode features four contestants, and features two rounds. In the first, each participant is questioned in turn on a specialist subject of their choice. In the second, they are quizzed on their general knowledge. 

At the end of the second round, the top scorer is declared champion of the episode. They are then entered into a further round, with a final taking place each year. If there is a tie for first place, the winner is determined by the player who passed on the fewest questions.
