A business in Canada, Bold Canine, received the Canadian Entrepreneur Business Excellence Award. It is opening a brand new division, Bold Raw, to market raw food for dogs. Is raw food safe for a cat?

Advocates for an unprocessed food diet feel a cat may have a healthier coat, cleaner teeth and better overall health. Opponents feel it could experience a nutritional imbalance and foodborne illnesses. Currently, there's not been enough research done to support either claim.

In a study by Francis M. Pottenger, Jr over a twenty year period from 1932 to 1942, 900 cats were fed two forms of diet. The cats on the unprocessed food diet remained healthy while others were fed the exact same diet but cooked suffered health problems. Critics claimed the cats endured taurine deficiency brought on by the cooking of the food. Taurine is readily available in every processed cat foods today.

The American Veterinary Medical Association, British Veterinary Association and Canadian Veterinary Medical Association haven't supported the feeding of unprocessed food to animals including a cat. They believe you will find potential health risks to it and best dog food the public.

There a four concerns on whether to feed a cat an unprocessed food diet or processed food diet. The very first is nutritional balance. Nutritional balance is important to its longterm health. AAFCO, an association which tries to regulate the quality and safety of animal food, have created animal food standards. AAFCO has matched their standards against raw food diets and found nutritional deficiencies.
