I had high hopes for an enjoyable sci-fi experience with this movie, but unfortunately, it turned out to be quite dull. The storyline revolves around Adam Sandler's character feeling guilty about prioritizing his career over his pregnant wife, which seems unrealistic given the circumstances. The film is riddled with inconsistencies that would frustrate any true sci-fi enthusiast. Rather than genuine science fiction, it comes across as nonsensical. While an alien is introduced, its presence adds little to the overall plot. Similarly, the protagonist's occupation in space could easily be replaced with any other profession that keeps him away from home. The so-called "sci-fi" elements appear forced and fail to contribute meaningfully to the narrative. In comparison to a more successful sci-fi story like Project Hail Mary, this movie falls short in terms of intellectual depth. If you were intrigued by the concept but left disappointed, I suggest exploring the aforementioned book instead.
