Introduction {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

In today’s lesson, we will be doing a hands-on group project! The name of the project is called “Sink or Swim” and for this project we will be dividing the class into four groups of five. We will take four tubs of water, one for each group, and a few different objects such as a rubber duck, a magnet, a paper clip, an apple and a paper weight. The students will have a worksheet to record whether or not each item float or sank based on their group’s hypothesis about each item. Each group must come to an agreement on a hypothesis for each item before starting the experiment, as well as to explain the meaning to their group each definition that is assigned to them. I will be walking around to supervise each group and help as we go along, since I cannot be in four places at once. Before we begin, we will be looking at our resource page to get a better understanding of how and why stuff sinks or floats; I will assign each worker their term to research here.
