It is very important for students to be able to learn about the world around them. This experiment will help them determine what sinks and what floats based on an item’s density, mass, volume, and other scientific definitions and findings. Having the students learn about the weight of objects in water is something that will be helpful for them not only when conducting this experiment, but later in life as they learn about the sea and the trash pollution that is plaguing our oceans. In the long run, this experiment can be looked back at as a fond remembrance of learning through fun, hands-on experimenting and hopefully create a spark that can help get our oceans clean again.
