Hello, I am a Graphic Design student, and I want to start my career as a graphic designer

  1. Alignment

This is the thing which gives the best look to your work. If your elements are perfectly aligned then it gives clarity to your work. Alignment has to ensure every element has a visual connection with another page. It brings sharpness. If your alignment is not correct, then even your attractive element gives a disorganized look. You can use guides and grides to make your projects well-aligned.

  1. Hierarchy

This is what directs the viewer's eyes, you should ask yourself what you want that viewer to notice first, then design accordingly. Use the elements that attract the viewer's eyes. It tells a visual story and collects information. Elements like color, contrast, size, etc play a crucial role in hierarchy.

  1. Contrast

As a graphic designer, this is a very important thing that you should know about. Color Contrast matters a lot. Even if you designed it perfectly, but the color contrast is not good, then it will not finalized. Contrast makes your design stand out. Contrast can become the best with shape, size, spacing, and color.

  1. Repetition

Repetition means, repeated icons, colors, and text throughout your work. Repetition ties together all the parts of the design to make it cohesive. You should use compatible language beyond all the elements of a design.

  1. Proximity

Proximity is grouping elements that are related and keeping them together to show that they are connected. And if elements are not related to each other use white space for them, so that users help process information faster.

You can use white space to describe the relationship between elements.

  1. Balance

Balance is all about visual stability. Whether your design is symmetrical or asymmetrical, the goal is the same- make your design look comfortable. You can squint your design to see if it looks heavier or off-center somewhere.

  1. Color Theory

Color sets the tone and the emotion of the design. Understanding the relationship between the colors, harmony, and contrast is important, for creating a visual impact.

You can try a color wheel and work with the color palette when starting.

  1. Typography

Under graphic design, this is another important thing that you should focus on, Although Typography is using a font, now it isn’t just using a font, it’s about creating a readability structure. When you know to pair the fonts and use them consistently then it will become a game changer for you. Use two or three typefaces instead of using multiple, because consistency is a key.

  1. White space

White space makes your design more readable and understandable to users. It enhances usability, and focus and makes it more comfortable to read. Don’t fill out every inch of space, Let your design stand out.

  1. Simplicity

Simplicity is a key to making your design the best. Decoration makes your design unable to read, Keep it simple and help users to make it understand quickly.
