It’s true, Bokujou Monogatari was once called Harvest Moon ♪ This series was localized and published by Natsume Inc., who owned and still owns the name “Harvest Moon”. |
Of course, this was up until 2012, at which point Marvelous Inc.’s subsidiary merger led the company to dissolve its publishing agreement with Natsume in favor of releasing games with its acquired US publisher XSEED and European branch MarvelousAQL Europe LTD. |

Anywho, because the name “Harvest Moon” is still owned by Natsume Inc., the original series - that is, Bokujou Monogatari - had to receive a new name in English speaking countries. The publishing team at XSEED deliberated on what name to use instead… |
There were various names brought up! Before Story of Seasons was decided on, the names “Plow and Propose”, “Summer Solstice”, and “Autumn Wind” were also considered! Though that first one may have just been the staff having fun ♪ |

So…if I have this right… Everything from 2012 and earlier is both “Harvest Moon” and “Story of Seasons”… But overall it’s all “Story of Seasons” and “Bokujou Monogatari”? What about the games after 2012 that are still called “Harvest Moon”? |

Those are games made using Natsume Inc.’s own development studios -Talbot and Appci. Because Natsume legally owns the name “Harvest Moon”, they’re able to use that name for other products - including games that use the Bokujou Monogatari formula. |
But, even though the creators are different, there’s common ancestry due to the relationship of both companies - Victor Interactive & Natsume Inc. - when Bokujou Monogatari was in its infancy. Even a goddess like me doesn’t know their full history…~ |
