The University of Manchester is located in northern England and is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom. The university is known for its academic and research excellence. There are currently around 38,000 students, with 9,000 being international students. 

The University of Manchester supports eligible students from low-income backgrounds with scholarships. 

You need to apply to Student Finance England for the bursaries, and the student service center will make the decisions on the same. 

The bursaries are paid in three installments: 50% in February, 25 % in December and 25% in April. 

Manchester is a student city and hub, so it is best to apply for this scholarship early and not forget the student accommodation Manchester, too!

Many students who come to study in Manchester from all over the world need financial support, too. It is estimated there are about 41,000 international students in Manchester. 

The Manchester Bursary

This scholarship is available to students pursuing the university's undergraduate degree program. Student Finance England carries out the financial assessment. The award will be given to students during their studies. If the annual household income is £0 to £25,000, then the annual cash bursary will be £2,000, and if it's between £25,001 and £35,000, the annual cash bursary will be £1,000. 

If a student is eligible for NHS support, one will not be eligible for the scholarship, except for those students who receive Medicine and Dentistry. 

Foundation Year Bursaries

It is financial support given to students enrolled on the foundation course of year 0 programs for medicine, dentistry, sciences, bio sciences and engineering. If the annual household income is £0-£25,000, the annual cash bursary is £4,000 and if between £25,001 - £35,000, the annual cash bursary is £2,000. 

Undergraduate Access Scholarships

The university's alumni and donors fund this scholarship. This is an addition to other bursaries a student receives from the university. It applies to students who have completed the Manchester Access Programme and are doing a UG course at the university and will be awarded £1,000/ year during their study. 

Sports Scholarships

This scholarship aims to award the student-athletes a value of £9,000 to help them excel in sports and academics. It offers students a package to support specialist facilities and contribute to helping students by awarding up to £1,000 for training expenses and other sports-related benefits. Students can do this if they do part or full-time UG /PG courses. They also have been a recognized athlete of Sport England/ UK. 

The Cowrie Foundation Scholarships for Black British students

This scholarship is given to Black African and Caribbean students from socio-economically low backgrounds. Over the decade, it will fund around 100 black British students to study in UK universities. 

The applicants must be UK residents and represent the offer letter of study from the University of Manchester

It will cover the fee and stipend of up to £8,000/ year of the course.
