Energy label of your home and what can you do with it? {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

Since 2008, houses have been given an energy label: the more sustainable your home, the better the label. The energy label is mandatory when selling or renting out a home. Yet almost half of the Dutch do not know the label of their home.

The younger generation also more often plans to make their homes more sustainable and thus improve the energy label. Of course, they do this to help the environment. But the lower energy bill is also a nice bonus.

An energy label shows how energy-efficient a home is. If you are house hunting, you can check the label to find out how energy-efficient a home is. The more energy-efficient your home is, the higher its energy label. A home with a lower label may not be economical, but indicates you have room to become more sustainable.

If you are going to sell or rent a home, your home must have an energy label. Without a label, you can be fined a hundred seventy Euros. Since the start of this year, the label must comply with European legislation. The energy efficiency of a home is expressed in kilowatt-hours per square meter.

Until 2021 you applied for the energy label online and paid a few Euros for it. But now someone comes to your house, which entails higher costs. On average you pay about hundred-ninety Euros for an energy label for a single-family home and hundred Euros for an apartment.

But in the end, it is up to the energy advisor to determine costs. The costs can therefore be higher or lower. Lower energy labels are not favorable, but present opportunities to make it more sustainable. With the following sustainable solutions, you can save a lot of energy.

With the heat pump, you extract heat from the air, soil or groundwater. This is done via a heat exchanger. You can choose from different types of pumps.

If you want to get rid of your central heating boiler completely, it is best to choose the fully electric variant.

A solar boiler converts solar energy into heat. You get solar collectors on your roof through which liquid flows. The sun heats this liquid and it is then pumped to the boiler. The liquid then transfers heat to the water. So you get hot water, thanks to the sun.

Solar panels capture the light from the sun and convert it into electricity. You then use this electricity yourself or supply it back to the grid.

With under-floor heating, you can heat larger areas in your house fairly quickly. This costs quite a bit of gas, so you can make it more sustainable by installing under-floor heating that works on electricity.

All the measures mentioned above are of little use if you do not insulate your home properly. You can then generate as much sustainable heat as you want, but without good insulation, it will evaporate immediately.

Therefore, always insulate your home well before taking further steps. Think of double glazing or insulating your cavity wall and roof.

If you want a better energy label, it is useful to make your house more sustainable. Additionally, a sustainable house helps you to save money.
