Comedy has never been more popular than it is right now. In the past, it was considered a genre reserved for lesser-known filmmakers and actors. Now, most major studios are releasing original comedy films year after year. 

These days, nearly every major studio has its own branch of the studio that specializes in creating and marketing movies and TV shows that make people laugh. 

While some of these divisions produce high-concept comedies (think The Office or Parks & Rec), others churn out smaller, leaner comedies (think Zoolander or Step Brothers).

The Big Sick is a comedy gem that quickly became one of the most popular movies. It’s a story about a couple (played by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Ratajkowski) who move to India to start a new life, only to find that they can’t make ends meet. 

They turn to their family and friends for help, but all of them are struggling too. The film follows their hilarious journey as they try to figure out how to live a normal life while also trying to maintain communication with their loved ones back home. 

90 Minutes in Heaven 

This 2017 comedy tells the story of a man who returns to Earth after an extended trip to heaven and finds that life on Earth has taken a turn for the worse. He tries to get back on track by meeting new people, going out with his old friends, and trying to fix what he thinks is wrong with the world. 

But things only get more complicated when he realizes that heaven is just as terrible as Earth seems. For anyone looking for a laugh this month, 90 Minutes in Heaven is a great option. 

Can You Ever Forgive Me? 

This film is a must-see for anyone who enjoys a good laugh. The movie follows the story of a man, played by Jason Bateman, who goes to college and becomes involved in a relationship with a woman, who is one of the most beautiful women in the area. 

However, things get complicated when he starts to learn more about her and her past. The film is full of hilarious moments that will have you laughing until you cry.

Mamma Mia 2 

This sequel to the Academy Award-winning comedy classic Mamma Mia is a hilarious and unpredictable ride. This movie follows the women of London’s elite group of working-class women as they attempt to escape their dismal lives and return to showstopping performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. 

Step Brothers 

Step Brothers is a hilarious comedy that will have you laughing from beginning to end. It's a simple story about two brothers who start their own business and quickly realize the importance of music in their lives.
